Dr. Guang Xu

Associate Professor

Mining Engineering

Dr. Xu has expertise in mine ventilation and safety, dust and DPM control, and underground fire safety. Dr. Xu is an internationally recognized researcher who has supervised 4 PhD students, published 40 peer reviewed papers, and led over 0.5 million funded research projects while he worked in Australia. Aiming at reducing air pollution caused by mining and protecting miners from occupational respiratory disease, Dr. Xu has developed untraditional chemical stabilizer for controlling surface mine dust pollution, established coal dust suppressant and system for substantially reducing underground dust concentrations, and optimized ventilation system for effectively controlling underground diesel particulate matter. He has contributed significantly in the broader scientific and professional community by acting as member of organizing committee and the vice chairperson for the Australian Mine Ventilation Conference, and served on the board of committee for the AusIMM Health and Safety Society.

Research Interests:

• Mine ventilation, health and safety • Mining-induced particulate matter (PM) monitor and control • Underground fire safety • Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) • Enhanced coalbed methane recovery using microwave technology
