    Greetings from

the

 Academy

Dear M&M Academy Members,

I hope everyone has had a great 2017 like I have. As the year comes to a close, I’d like to review some highlights of the academy for the past year.

Strategic Plan!! – The great news is that based on a special strategic planning meeting held the day before our regular homecoming academy meeting, we have some concrete specific actions the academy is planning to pursue. Big thanks to Kurt Oakes for leading the meeting with our hired expert facilitator Kordell Norton. Thirteen members attended to provide valuable constructive suggestions and feedback.  To summarize the specific short-term actions, subcommittees were formed to address three focus areas:

  • Industry Familiarization
  • Legislative Engagement
  • M&M Academy White Paper

The subcommittees will begin work soon and look for more updates on these topics in the future.

At our April 2017 Academy induction, there were 11 new members inducted, 2 faculty recognized with awards form the academy, and we met 7 student scholars and their families. Congratulations to all!

Personnel changes at the University continue. Dr. David Borrok is the new GGPE Department Chair, Dr. Richard Welzein is a new Vice Provost and  Dean of the College of Engineering and Computing, and Dr. Chris Maples is the new interim Chancellor. The new interim Chancellor and the new  Dean have posted office hours and are accessible to students, faculty, and alumni for meetings and discussions. Academy members are encouraged to stop in to visit on your next trip to campus.

Please join us on Thursday April 19, 2018 for our next regular meeting and the induction of new members that evening.
